Sometime around 870 BC greeks added 5 vowels to the then used 20 odd characters and baptized them as alphabets. They introduced the art of writing and called it byblos. Not everyone welcomed this one of the most revolutionary inventions ever.
Some understood the power of byblos and its impact on future. They knew that ideas, traditions, cultures and secrets can be passed onto generations to come and can be misused as well. They tried to destroy this art but couldn?t succeed. (reference fifth mountain by Paulo Coelho) If only they would have succeeded to destroy the byblos, we might still be living in primitive age. But since it didn?t happen here we are to discuss the ten best authors/poets I our opinions.
The list of my favourite ten authors goes like this ..(it is subjected to change as I am yet to read many more of them)
Paulo Coelhowhen u want something ,all the universe conspire in helping you to achieve this is the bottomline of all of his works which make me like the author.
Eleven Minutes,Alchemist ,Fifth Mountain,By The River Piedra I Sat Down and Wept are some of the great ones.
Henry CharriereI have read only one book by henry and that is
Papillion .But Papillion itself made me a great fan of henry charriere. The book is a remarkable tale of courage and conviction a person can possess.Even if half of what is written in book is true it makes me rethink about the situation wayback in late 30s.
Erich SegalEver since I read
Doctors I fall in love with the book, although it sounds funny but I still fancy myself as Barney Livingston.
Acts of Faith,Love story,Man Woman and Child,Prizes are many other jewels in his crown. All the works are thoroughly researched and gives a good insight into the subject(u can practically practice medicine if you read Doctors).
Richard BachAhhh! Now here is the man who wrote one of the most complicated matters in such a simple manner that we cant thank him enough for that.
The One ,JLS are the ones which I read, and it once again confirmed that truth is always simple .It need not to be complicated to make it revered by all.
Amrita PritamI would have been a different person (deprived in many ways),if I hadnt read Amrita Pritam. She faced the wrath of her contemporary writers for her courage and honesty.
Rasidi Ticket(autobiography),Unchas Din,Pinjar(Gyanpeeth winner),Ek Thi Sara and many more.the honesty and simplicity of her works touched me deeply and I tend to develop an instant liking towards the person who read Amrita(cant help it).
Sharat Chandra ChattopadhyayaWidely known for introducing the word
Devdas in the modern vocabulary, the author has a charming way of writing.Specially the way he narrate the thinking of his female characters .
Path Ke Davedaar,Srikant(all parts),Devdaas,Charitraheen(one of the greatest) are a few of his many great works.
Mirja GhalibThe poet has become an epitome of urdu poetry, and not a single discussion of urdu poetry can be considered comple without mentioning him.He is simply superb and you can never imagine the last line of his poems ,they are all miraculously surprising.
Jeffery ArcherA great narrator, the grandeur of his works is mesmerizing.
Prodigal Daughter, Kane and Abel, To Cut The Long Story Short, Shall We Tell The President all are unputdownables.
John GrishamI was waiting for one book by him which has nothing legal about it(I mean to say which has nothing to do with law and lawyers). Finally I got The
Bleachers.
The rain maker, The Firm, The King of Torts are a few I like. The best part is he has a comprehensive knowledge of his field, which reflects in his works.
Enid BlytonNow if you want me to be sorry for my childishness, I am not gonna do that. My list would be incomplete without mentioning her.
the Famous Five, the Secret Seven and the Adventurous Four (god will I ever forget, how crazy I was about them).
P.S. comments are welcome ppl as it will help me improve myself.
